What Lies Beneath: Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi

Updated on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 1:14AM by Registered Commenter[OnTheGoTennis]

I love when I can resurrect this post, mostly because it means that people are missing parts of clothing....

I really only see new tattoos while at tournaments and I haven't been to a tourney in a while, but today I caught a little of the Italian Stallions and doubles partners, Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi, practicing and noticed they both have a couple of tats.

First up, Fabio:

His first tattoo is clearly letters, the question is, which ones?  When I enlarged it, it is: NMM.  I have no idea what this might stand for but I bet you guys do!  Please leave it in the comments.

Video: Fabio Fognini Plays an Amazing but Painful Point

Fabio Fognini will be making his debut in the 4th round of the Australian Open, but to get there is had to go through a little pain.  Check out this amazing point that he and Sam Querrey played during their 3rd round match where Fabio completed the point with a body slam right into the concrete.  Can someone say, "OUCH!"

Also, if you want to know more about Fabio, click here for "10 Things You Should Know" about him, and here for a one-on-one interview we did at the 2013 BNP Paribas Open. Enjoy!

Who Would You Rather? Man Candy at the 2013 Western and Southern Open

It’s August. It’s hot.

And that means fans at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati can enjoy a bevy of shirtless professional tennis players’ bodies.

The tennis tournament boasts four stadiums: the 11,400-capacity Center Court, the 5,000-capcity Grandstand Court, the 4,000-capacity Court 3 and the 2,000-capacity Court 9.

But many fans know some of the best views are on the 12 other smaller courts used for early-round matches, as well practices.

There, just a few feet away, they can see their favorite male tennis players – who often are shirtless.  So the question begs (BEGS!!!) to be asked.....Who would YOU rather?

15ish Burning Questions with Fabio Fognini

OTGT:  So these are all off-court questions.

FF:  You get two questions.

OTGT:  Two!  (laughter)

FF:  No, no.  (smiles)

So first, I want to know what that was about this morning? (Earlier in the morning he "flipped the bird" at someone but it looked like it was aimed at me.  He quickly apologized and said "I'm sorry, that wasn't for you.")
Ahhhh, that was for my phisio.

What did he do that upset you?
I was just joking with him.

So you won't go into details?
No. (laughter)

Ice baths, Photo booths, and Chipmunks?? Highlights from French Open Days 4-8

This may be a tennis blog, but a few of the photos below may be NSFW, depending on how cool your boss is. The French Open seems to have inspired some of the male players to photograph themselves having icebaths... they kept themselves covered up in the important places though. Nobody has anything to boast of in those temperatures, after all!

10 things you should know about Fabio Fognini

Few players without a career title draw as much of a reaction out of tennis fans as Fabio Fognini.  Known for his dramatic ups-and-downs, animated facial expressions, on-court theatrics, and eyebrows, this Italian tennis player, currently ranked 45, certainly knows how to make an impact. With career wins over Andy Murray and Gael Monfils, a career high ranking of 32, and a (controversial) French Open Quarterfinal to his name, he certainly seems to have the talent to be a force in the game.  Earlier this year he reached his first ever career final in Bucharest (who could forget this), and concerned tennis fans are hopeful that he will go one step further - he has vowed not to shave his beard away until he wins a title. But rankings and victories are only a small part of the Fabio Fognini experience. Here’s what else you need to know.

1. He’s temperamental on the court, but very friendly off-court.

Fabio is most famous for his two epic French Open victories over Gael Monfils and Albert Montanes.  In both matches his argumentative nature and flair for drama were on full display.  In 2010, after his match against Monfils was called for darkness, Fabio went on a rampage.  Monfils said, "At the cloak rooms he insulted everybody for 30 minutes…. It was not very friendly, but … you know, he's a nice guy."

Gael was right.  He is a nice guy when a match isn’t on the line.  He loves the Italians (more on that later), gets along well with all of the Spanish guys since he trains in Barcelona, and has recently taken to twitter (@Fabio_Fogna) to prove that he’s chummy with nearly everyone on tour.

Photo: The Fabio Fognini runner-up pose

Leave it to a guy with the first name Fabio (last name Fognini) to tweet a picture of himself posing with his runner-up trophy from the BRD Nastaste Tiriac Trophy Tournament as if he is auditioning for an adult film role - if you know what I mean.....

Being a runner-up never looked so good.
