SERENA LOSES HER TEMPER AND THE MATCH

Serena Williams, last year's US Open Champion lost dramatically tonight to Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-5 due to a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct.  Serena was serving down a set, and 5-6 15-30 in the second set, when she was called for foot fault on her 2nd serve, resulting in a double fault.  That's where things get UGLY.

She shook her raquet and yelled profanities at the official, including stating that she was going to shove the (expletive here) ball down the linesman's throat.  (See video above) She was then charged the point, which, by the way, happened to be MATCH point.  On review of the serve, she didn't appear to foot fault.  Now, I'm not saying what Serena did was right, but I've NEVER seen a foot fault called on a 2nd serve, especially on such a large stage.   She definitely took it too far, but it was unfortunate that it ended in this fashion.   In her post-match interview Serena was unpologetic for her actions yet complimentary to Kim and wanted to put the incident behind her.  "... I like to learn from the past, live in the present and not make the same mistakes in the future."

To wrap up the rest of the day, Caroline Wozniacki advanced to her first Grand Slam Final, and Rafael Nadal eased by Fernando Gonzalez in the men's Quarterfinals.  Rafa will meet Del Potro and Federer will meet Djokovic in tomorrow's men's Semifinals.

Serena needs to step up and apologize ... To the lineswoman, to Kim, and to tennis fans. Her behavior was horrendous! (and maybe gives us some insight into who she really is.)
