OTGT caught up with Roberta following her 2nd round win in the Connecticut Open. She's had quite a year and despite fantastic doubles results with Sara Errani in the past, she's 100% committed to singles and is very happy to finally be ranked in the Top 10.

What does it mean to you to represent your country in the Olympics? Well, it is a special moment for sure. I love to play for my country like in Fed Cup and Olympics and this was my 4th Olympics (Athens, Beijing, London and it is always an amazing moment. No money. No points. You play just for your country and for the experience and I was so proud to represent my country.

Are you staying in the Olympic village?  Yes.

Did you get to watch any other events while in Rio? No, just on tv! (laughs) I had no time to see anything else.

Did you enjoy Rio? Had you been there before? Yes, I really like the city. I played one tournament but the Olympics was different because you stay in the village and you can see all of the athletes from all different sports so it was a great experience.

How would you describe yourself in three words?  Simple, nice, relaxed

What is the one phone app you can’t live without? WhatsApp

What is the first thing you did to celebrate your US Open win last year? Just relaxed with my family and my friends, nothing special.

If you were stuck in an elevator in the Olympic village, who is the one person you would want to rescue you? Oh wow. Anyone? (laughs) Wow. I say Paulo Maldini (former A.C. Milan defender). He was my idol when I was growing up.
